About me:
I am a Technical Director at WAGA-TV 5 in Atlanta, Georgia. I technical-direct the 5pm and 10pm newscasts Monday - Friday. I have won 7 Emmy Awards for Individual Excellence-Technical Director in the Southeast Regional Emmy Awards during my 17 years with WAGA. I also maintain a network of Chyrons including Infinit, Max and Maxine. I set-up template pages, directories, fonts and do all logo compose work. I also do fill-in overtime work in Master Control, Chyron and Audio. 
Some of my Emmy Awards. My job is also my hobby. I have built a complete, functional, professionally equipped radio studio in my basement. To see it, click on the link to WHFI FM 98.1 below. I have five satellite dishes and multiple receivers. Currently I am working on building a small, in-house cable system. 
Preparing for a newscast. 
WAGA-TV 5 Control-A. This view shows the GVG Kalypso switcher. If you look closely at the right side of the switcher you will see an Abekas DVeous dual-twin channel DVE, Utah Scientific routing switchers and a remote auxiliary switcher for the Kalypso. There are also eight color, digital, LCD monitors that are fed by auxiliary busses from the Kalypso. With these I can monitor different inputs to the switcher, different levels of the switcher, the internal still-stores of the switcher etc. The Kalypso is 4 M/Es (including program/preset). Each M/E has 4 keyers. There are 8 channels of still-store and 6 channels of DVE in the Kalypso. The GVG Kalypso is the "Rolls Royce" of television production switchers. 
WAGA-TV 5 Control-A. This view shows the GVG Kalypso switcher. If you look closely at the left side of the switcher you will see a DNF Shot Box and VTR/DDR controller. There are also DNF controllers for a 4 channel Chyron Aprisa still-store and a 4 channel Chyron Aprisa clip store. We have 4 channels of GVG Profile that are controlled by the DNF system and/or Kalypso's E-Mem. You can also see a 2-channel RTS intercom and an RTS ADAM intercom; these are used to communicate with the news anchors, remotes and other people working on the telecast such as camera, audio, master control etc. The 360 Systems Digicart is used to add sound effects to video effects and is under Kalypso's E-Mem control. |
